La Biosfera is an educative mountain
adventure and healing retreat-in-progress in Nicaragua that encourages volunteerism and
cultural exchange while working organically on quality of life issues.

MOTORCYCLE:
We offer motorbike
tours, a polka,
as they say in the North ..that is, you and your camera ride passenger. What
better way to check out the spectacular landscape, history and daily activity
of northern Nicaragua? Bilingual, knowledgeable, licensed and insured drivers
will accommodate your schedule, whether you want to see the lovely Lake Apanas,
visit the Sandino Museum in San Rafael del Norte or offer a petition to
Padre d Andrea Odorico (R.I.P. and whose miracle petition responses have earned
him canonization consideration by the Vatican) at Tepeyac, visit a coffee farm, see Yuca Puca where Sandino
duked it out with U.S. Marines in the 1920s, travel countryside not
frequented by buses and have the freedom to stop where you like, swing through
the pine trees on a canopy ride, visit a hard to access nature reserve, see the stunning Golondrina or Penas Blancas waterfalls, check out real estate, get to know the ins and outs of growing cardamom, coffee or cacao, or simply and spontaneously see what Northern
Nicaragua has to offer, La Biosfera staff is a la orden.Half-day: $20Full-day: $35. We enjoy advance warning. For these or other

ON FOOT: La Biosfera's enchanted forest enjoys various trails, from Sendero Eco-Guerrillero (you will be inclined to sprint through the forest) to Rudy Ridge (for the inner anarchist), as well as The Grotto, The Rumble in the Jungle, and the Batcave. Trailblaze through old growth forest, see a series of waterfalls, feel the sense of rare discovery. Don't miss Mabel in the Stable (foto below), Sir Francis Bacon in the petting zoo, or the chance to eat huevos del amor (free range eggs), play a round of Wide Game, machete your way through jungle, take a mighty mountain bath, light a torch in the cave for that real National Geographic feel, or sit and listen for the songbirds, and the wild gorilla sound of what are really quite petite monkeys. La Pena de la Cruz is another popular trail and a
ridge you can see from La Biosfera; and Penas Blancas, which the
Lonely Planet says is among the best
trekking in Central America, is only about an hour bus drive away, as are Datanli del Diablo, Kilkimanjaro and other such eco-treats. Lake fishing, coffee-tourism, river swimming, star-gazing w/telescope, or whatever you might care to imagine (sorry, no hunting) can be arranged, contact info@hijuela.com, (011 505) 8698-1439, 8427-8414 alt.

The SPA
La Biosfera's Spa is under construction. It will soon feature an indigenous sauna, plunge pool, and a guild hall wherein massage and other healing therapies will be administered, as well as taught in organized sessions. The Guild Hall will also be a place for coming together, Solstice Festivals, telescope viewing, pigroasts, kite making classes, ojoche nut training, "opportunity expertise" sessions, environment and recycle awareness sessions, and whatever occurs to the principal, her partners and guests over the course of time.
